LGBTQ+ Victory Fund Endorses James Lewis for Alexandria City Council
National organization endorses Lewis because he will be a strong voice for equality when elected

Alexandria, VA – Today LGBTQ+ Victory Fund – the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ+ people to public office – endorsed James “Jimmy” Lewis for Alexandria City Council.
The endorsement signals Victory Fund’s confidence that Lewis is well-positioned to win the council race and be a strong voice for equality. Lewis would be one of only two out LGBTQ people on the Alexandria City Council if he wins his race. LGBTQ+ Victory Fund endorsed incumbent Councilman Kirk McPike for re-election in December 2023.

LGBTQ+ people remain severely underrepresented in government nationwide – holding just 0.2 percent of elected positions despite representing at least 7.2 percent of the U.S. population, according to LGBTQ+ Victory Institute.
As an out LGBTQ+ leader, Lewis will be an unwavering voice for equality on the Alexandria City Council. Her priorities in office will include affordable housing, mental health, environmental protections and campaign finance reform.
