James Lewis Endorsed by Carpenters’ Union

April 28th, 2021

Alexandria, VA – Today, the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters announced their endorsement of James Lewis for Alexandria City Council.

“While still a new candidate, James Lewis has set himself apart from others in the race by addressing issues of major concern for workers, like wage theft, project labor agreements, and expanding apprenticeship programs through local workforce development” said Raul Castro, Council Representative for the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters. “We are proud to endorse James Lewis and look forward to working with him and others on Council to advance workers’ rights and protections at the municipal level.”

“I’m extremely honored to receive the support of the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters. As our City continues to grow, we need to ensure the women and men building our future should also afford to live in it,” said James Lewis, candidate for Alexandria City Council. “Supporting and fostering organizations composed of and speaking for workers helps address income inequality, increase wages, expand access to healthcare and foster racial justice. As a City, we can best live our shared progressive values by supporting workers, ensuring livable wages and preventing wage theft.”

Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters is the latest endorsement for Lewis. Since announcing his campaign in February, James has won the endorsement of Virginia Senate Majority Leader Dick Saslaw, Sheriff Dana Lawhorne, former Mayor Kerry Donley, NOVA Labor Council, Baltimore-Washington Laborers' District Council, 1Planet Women, 314 Action Fund, Run for Something and LGBTQ Victory Fund.
